"Today, the world is facing unprecedented problems of communism, fascism, violence and terrorism and in such a situation the only hope for humanity seems in the ways of Mahatma Gandhi. UN has also declared October 2, the birth anniversary of Gandhi, as the International Non-violence Day in 2007, which shows the significance of the Gandhian values in today's time," he said.
Set up in 1952, when Vinoba's 'bhoodan andolan' was at its peak, the trust has been engaged in programmes to spread the message of the Mahatma by holding seminars, workshops, meetings and youth camps.
"After reading Gandhi's books, many people have decided to follow the path of truth and non-violence and are striving to sustain morality by practising peaceful conflict resolution which is the need of the hour," Somaiya said.
