Commemorating 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing on Hiroshima  More than 675 NSS volunteers from colleges affiliated with SNDT Women’s University and the University of Mumbai participated in the Annual Hiroshima Day Silent Peace March, organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, on Thursday, 6th August 2026. The march commenced from Azad Maidan at 3:00 p.m. and concluded at Hutatma Chowk at 3:30 p.m. Students carrying visual displays depicting the horrors of nuclear warfare led the procession, followed by NSS volunteers, Gandhian workers, activists, journalists, and peace-loving citizens. The march sought to create awareness about the catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons and to reaffirm the collective commitment to peace, nonviolence, and nuclear-weapon-free world. Participants carried banners and placards displaying messages such as 'NO MORE HIROSHIMA', 'We Want to Grow, Not to Blow Up', 'NO BOMB, YES PEACE' and 'NO WAR, YES PEACE', urging humanity to reject violence and embrace peace. At 3.45 p.m., participants assembled at Hutatma Chowk, where the Pledge for a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World and Global Peace was administered, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of peace, nonviolence, and universal brotherhood. The Peace March also featured posters depicting the devastation caused by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6th and 9th August 1945. The aerial bombings claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and left generations to suffer the long-term effects of radiation. More than eight decades later, the tragedy continues to remind the world of the urgent need for global nuclear disarmament and lasting peace. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and widespread public support, reinforcing the enduring relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s message of peace and nonviolence in today’s turbulent world.
