45 inmates of Thane Central Jail have appeared for Gandhi Peace Exam on Gandhism organised by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal

Violence & terrorism has become a global threat nowadays. The only solution of this violence prevailing in India and abroad lies in the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.

To evoke the sense of regret in minds of undertrials and realize them the power of non-violence, the test with 80 questions on Mahatma Gandhi was conducted by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal with the help of Shri. S. N. Chavan, Thane Jail Superintendent at Thane Central Jail today where 45 inmates have appeared for Gandhi Peace Exam based on Gandhi's book, 'The Story of My Experiments with Truth', 'Gandhi Bapu' & 'Gandhiji'.

Bapu is not among us physically but his luminous teachings continue to put many a thwarted soul on the right path. Gandhi's values and principles are for everybody. He explained that the concept of ‘eye for an eye’ would make the whole world blind. To teach this to jail inmates who have been disillusioned with life and have committed wrong, Gandhi Peace Exam was conducted by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal since last three years in various Jails of Maharashtra and have received an enthusiastic response.

After the exam, prisoners were asked to write the feedback about how the Gandhi Exam is benefited to them. Many inmates wrote that Mandal should regularly organize this kind of exam. Awards and participation certificates will be given to all the prisoners.

We hope that even if 10 out of 100 inmates alter their way of thinking after the exam and learn the technique of 'win & win' & not 'defeat & win'; it will contribute in improving the society because 'it's never too late...'
