80. Ba's Life Companion

In 1933 Bapu undertook a fast for the purpose of self-purification. Naturally, therefore, Ba felt, as usual, greatly concerned about his health. So Mirabehn, referring to this, wrote in a letter to Bapu, "Only today we have learnt of your impending fast. Ba is, therefore, feeling very anxious about you. She feels the fast is not at all called for. But she knows you will never listen to her. So all that she can do is to pray to God that your fast may be completed without any untoward happening." To this Bapu replied, "Please tell Ba that her father has given her a life-companion, who could crush down any woman. However, I am constantly trying to win her love."
