Korean prime minister. surely mahatma Gandhi cannot be measure along those
lines. he has to be given the millennium peace prize award. he has changed the
history of not only the Indians, but of south Africa, black America and
perception of the entire humanity. surely this man has to receive more than the
peace prize. on the other hand, how does it matter.... and who are we to confer
upon him any prize? it would be a farce if we did that

have been more respected and recognized while he was alive but for whatever it

Gandhiji is the only one of those who have worked for peace in our century,
whose work has not only survived him , but has been strengthened by its innate
logic and effectiveness, demonstrated so dramatically in the success of the US
Civil Rights Movement, the fall of Siviet hegemony in East Europe and

for his great work.
but others who are following his path must get satisfaction that what they are
doing is really worth it. Gandhiji is gone and it would not do him any better
whether we give him the award or not. but certainly the one who will follow him
will feel secured about his work. and this satisfaction that their work will be
recognized will do wonder for our country & all others who are

approval for his greatness. The prize has no weight to make or recognize that he
was a great man. There is no doubt about his greatness. If the Nobel Peace Prize

Reason: Gandhiji was the greatest personality on this earth. I
don't know if any noble prize would be innuff to award him. He was their
to teach humanity lesson to all of us. He was telling a world that if I
could follow a peace path then everyone can. Following his foot step by

he wanted all along. If Millennium really want to award him than we should
really teach our kids all over the world about him and what massage he was

several times and never won. Whoever else that they had in mind to win
could possibly do what he did? Maybe I hold him with so much respect, but
I don't see how it could be. What increases my admiration for him so much
more is the fact that Gandhiji would never even want an award for what he did
because of his great humility. He was more than modest, but he should be
recognized.

history of the world . He is one of the few who have worked for peace in

Gandhiji greatly influenced people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson
Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Lech Walesa, Corazon Aquino and Aung San Su Kyi, who
successfully followed Gandhi's model of non-violent movement as the solution of
today's socio-political and religious problems.

is the only leader in our times who led the national movement to success and

Reason: Before Gandhi, what the Western World called passive resistance
was no more than theory. Gandhi not only pioneered this idea, but was
extremely successful. Even if he did not gain lasting peace for India, he
ensured autonomy for his people without a full scale war with Britain.
Gandhi did far more than bring about independence. He revolutionized the
political outlook of the world. A campaign of peace achieved more than any
one rebel group or army could ever hope to. Tolstoy and Thoreau are
revered world wide for dreaming of passive resistance. Gandhi brought
their ideas into existence. This of course was a much more arduous task
than simply philosophizing. Therefore, the Mahatma deserves at least as
much fame if not more than innovative white European authors. Mohandas
Gandhi should be given the Nobel Peace prize without hesitation. I find it
amazing that such has not happened already. Most recipients of the award
are not considered among the most influential people of the millennium.
Nor are most of them people who have run successful peace campaigns in extremely
large and divided nations. The Mahatma not only deserves this award, but
epitomizes it.
