22. His Sense of Humour

"One of the things that delighted many English people was the discovery that the great Mahatma had the same sense of humour and laughter at the same things as ourselves. I had the honour of driving him a little way in my car. On the way he asked me about my honorary degree. "What is this 'D. D.' that you have?" he said. I explained that it was the degree of a Doctor of Divinity, bestowed on me (honoris causa) by Glasgow University. "Ah," said he, "so you know all about divinity?"
