Salt March And Arrival In Wardha
Salt Satyagraha
The Salt Satyagraha was launched in 1930. Gandhiji walked nearly 375 km with 78 followers and reached Dandi on the sea shore. At the beginning of his epic march he declared, "I would return to this Ashram only after independence". At that time the Sabarmati Ashram was 14 years old Gandhiji who used to ask for cooperation from the public, sacrificed his Ashram for the holy war of independence from foreign rule. Gandhiji's declaration electrified the nation. Somehow, independence was not there and naturally because of his vow, Gandhiji did not return to his Ashram in Ahmedabad. Many people invited him to his places. However, he decided to make his home in some village in Central India. For a number of reasons, he came down to Wardha in 1934.
