Gandhigiri In Jail 82 inmates of Thane Central Jail have appeared for Gandhi Peace Exam |
||
Today, violence & terrorism is not a problem of a single nation, but it has become a global threat. The only solution to this violence, prevailing in India and abroad, lies in the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. The way inmates killed themselves at the Arthur Road Jail recently should not happen anymore. But it's happen because they do not know the right path. To evoke the sense of regret in minds of undertrials and realize them the power of non-violence, the test with 80 questions on Mahatma Gandhi was conducted by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal in association with Gandhi Study Centre, Birla College, Kalyan and with the help of Shri. S. N. Chavan, Thane Jail Superintendent at Thane Central Jail today where 82 inmates have appeared for Gandhi Peace Exam. They had already undergone a two week long teaching programme and had volunteered to read Gandhi's book, 'The Story of My Experiments with Truth'. Bapu was gone away since long but his luminous teachings continue to put many a thwarted soul on the right path. Gandhi's values and principles are for everybody. It was Gandhiji who explained to the world that an eye for an eye would make the whole world blind. To teach this to jail inmates who have been disillusioned with life and have committed wrong, Gandhi Peace Exam was conducted by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal since last three years in various Jails of Maharashtra and have received an enthusiastic response. After the exam, prisoners were asked to write the feedback about how the Gandhi Exam is benefited to them. Second phase of this Exam will be held by the end of this month when about 100 inmates will appear for Gandhi Exam. Awards and participation certificates will be given to all the prisoners. Sarvodaya Mandal has now scheduled to conduct Gandhi Exam in Jails of Arthur Road, Jalgaon and Dhule within this month. We hope that even if 10 out of 100 inmates alter their way of thinking after the exam and learn the technique of 'win & win' & not 'defeat & win'; it will contribute in improving the society because 'it's never too late...'
