852 INMATES WILL RECALL BAPU IN PRISONS DURING GANDHI JAYANTI WEEK
It
is mostly the violent act that puts one behind bars but repentance can
dilute it and it seems true for the 852 inmates of the 11 prisons of
Maharashtra who will appear for the examination of Gandhian Thought
during Gandhi Jayanti.
The preacher of non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi devoted his life for spreading the non-violence and he proved that it is an effective weapon. Years after his departure, his thoughts are seen prevailing in the society and also in the prisons where the inmates are undergoing imprisonment as a result of violent anger that lasts only a fraction of minutes.
Bombay Sarvoday Mandal is organising the Gandhi Peace Examination since last four years in jails of Maharashtra. The result has been inspiring for the Bombay Sarvoday Mandal as well as the inmates and officials of various jails. Laxman Gole, a dreaded criminal confessed his crimes before the judge after reading Autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi in Thane jail. Gole is a volunteer of Mandal and visits various jails inspiring the prisoners to accept Gandhi’s teachings. The inmates serving imprisonment under various crimes expressed their desire to give Gandhian Thought Examinations.
These examinations will be conducted in the jails of Arthur Road, Thane, Ratnagiri, Osmanabad, Dhule, Jalgaon, Bhandara, Nagpur, Bhusawal, Chandrapur and Aurangabad.
Books written by Mahatma Gandhi and that on his thoughts are made available to the inmates free of charge.
Along with books, compact discs of films like ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, ‘Gandhi’, ‘Bapu Ne Kaha Tha’ and ‘Do Ankhe Barah Hath’ are also being sent to teach the inmates Gandhian principles.
We shall conduct an examination of 80 marks in which the inmates would have to answer 80 objective type questions. Those who pass the exam will receive Certificate and Khadi clothes as a price.
