The film ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ has generated interest to know more about Gandhi among young generation. In a bid to win back children hooked on to television and tuitions, Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, Shree M. D. Shah Mahila College and Smt. T. S. Bafna Junior College, Malad had hit upon a novel venture In About 2350 students of Shree M. D. Shah & Smt. T. S. Bafna Mahila College, Malad appeared for exam on Gandhian Thoughts. The exam was based on the book ‘Gandhi’s Life in His Own Words’ by Mahatma Gandhi. The Question paper carried 80 objective questions of 80 marks from the above mentioned books Today, children are not sufficiently aware about Gandhian Values like Non-violence, Peace and tolerance. They only know Gandhiji as a historical person and nothing about his principles which he implemented in his life and said, “My Life is My Message”. Gandhi himself learnt values by reading books. Gandhiji believed in change of heart. He said, “Hate the sin, not the sinner.” Therefore, Mandal has organized Gandhi Peace Exam in Arthur Road, Thane & Kalyan Jail and nearly 350 prisoners will appear for the exam. This year, up to now nearly 9000 students from 38 schools and 42 colleges has appeared for the exam. This is just an initiation – even if just 50 out of 1,000 students go further and read more about Gandhi, the Mandal has made a difference. Before 30th January 2007, Martyr’s Day, Sarvodaya Mandal planned to prepare more than 10,000 students for the Gandhi Peace Exam in various colleges of S.N.D.T. and Mumbai University.
