Around 1,081 inmates from 14 jails i.e. Arthur Road, Byculla, Thane,
Paithan, Nagpur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Akola, Wardha, Nashik, Bhandara,
Ratnagiri, Osmanabad and Yavatmal District prisons of Maharashtra, are
participating in Gandhi Peace Examination during Gandhi Jayanti Week
organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Research Foundation.
Gandhi’s life & works will give the prisoners an opportunity to repent
for their crimes and live as responsible citizens on completion of their
sentences. 360 MBA students will sell 10,800 Gandhi autobiographies…
Laxman Gole, a hardcore criminal who transformed his life after reading
Gandhi’s Autobiography, is now working as a management consultant, gave
a talk on October 1, on ‘Gandhi & Management’ and encouraged management
students of Chetana Institute to read Gandhi’s autobiography to become
good leaders. 360 MBA students agreed to read the autobiography &
will learn marketing through practice by selling 10,800
copies of the book, Story of My Experiments with Truth. All students
took an oath to practice truth, non-violence, love & selfless service
for society in their day-to-day life. 525 NSS students took the pledge to work for non-violence… “I shall endeavor to resolve all differences through dialogue and constitutional means and I shall strive to establish WORLD-PEACE…”, about 525 students from the NSS Unit of 75 colleges of University of Mumbai joined hands with millions of people all over the world and took the PLEDGE on International Non-Violence Day, i.e. today. This programme was jointly organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and N.S.S. Unit of University of Mumbai to commemorate 142nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the International day of Non-Violence.
NSS students from 80 colleges participated in elocution, poster and
essay-writing competitions related to Gandhi's teachings, organized by
Mumbai University and Sarvodaya Mandal. Prizes were distributed at the
hands of Dr. Usha Thakkar, Secretary, Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya.
Dr. Thakkar spoke about the relevance of Gandhi’s ideologies in the present
context. Gandhi books worth Rs. 18,000/- sold at 50% discount… Gandhi Book Centre of Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal has organized a sale of Gandhi books at 50% discount during Gandhi Jayanti Week up to October 11. Gandhi books worth Rs. 18,000/- have been sold at various places on 2nd October.
