This journey is organized by Gandhi Serve Foundation in co-operation with Jet On Travels, Berlin/Germany. The tour provides a rare insight in the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi, who cultivated the ethics of nonviolence, and promoted it far beyond the border of India. What is left of Gandhi's teachings in today's India? And of what relevance are his thoughts and deeds for the future? On this journey, places of Gandhi's life are visited and people are met in order to answer these questions. The group meets associates and relatives of Gandhi, and visits grass-root projects and ashrams that have been founded on Gandhian principles.
The tour leader, Peter Ruhe, is the founder and chairperson of the Gandhi Serve Foundation, Berlin, and author of the photo biography Gandhi (Phaidon Press, London/New York, 2001). Since over 20 years he works on Gandhi's life and teachings. In several countries Peter Ruhe has presented exhibitions and multi media presentations on Gandhi. He also worked for TV productions on Gandhi in various countries. For his engagement Peter Ruhe was awarded in India.
The visit of places of interest forms part of the 17-days tour programme as well as an encounter with modern India. A full spectrum of the religious, cultural, political and historical aspects of India will be included on this tour as well. Accommodation will be in middle-class hotels. This tour will be done annually from now.
Also they will have a tour across South Africa "In the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi" from Dec 19, 2004 - Jan 3, 2005.
