The Terrorist attack of 26/11 was a rarest to rare ghastly experience which left the city of Mumbai bruised and battered. It revealed the worst of human brutality, But through this major calamity there emerged a new awakening which bonded the citizen of different religion, castes, creeds and status into one united group with a common cause to fight terrorism.

Global terrorism is like a cancerous growth spreading its roots deep down in all directions. People have come forward with various suggestions for long term and immediate steps to curb terrorism. We still have to search for a solution which can permanently put an end to terrorism all over the world. Somehow some one has to start believing! Yes we can do it! We have to!

Though it is very difficult to cure this malignant disease we should not give up hope. We have to make through investigation to find the root cause before treatment.

The root cause of the problem lies in not understanding the spirit of true religion, lack of value based education, corrupt and incompetent political system and lack of social responsibility towards the weaker section.

1. RELIGION: Today religion has become a cause of conflict. Houses of worship are commercialized. In the name of religion and through charity organizations funds are collected in plenty and are used for unlawful dubious activities. Religion is imprisoned in the clutches of maul is and pundits who themselves do not understand and follow the true spirit of love, compassion, truth, tolerance, cooperation and brotherhood which is the true spirit of every religion. No religion propagates hatred, brutality, violence and animosity. If the recognized leaders of mankind, who have control over the belief of their tribes, renounce the use of force, permanent peace can be obtained. With the name of Allah or Ram on their lips the satanic leaders cause havoc killing helpless innocent people through disoriented misguided followers. At this critical junction we see nothing good comes out for the future. Is the devil more powerful them God? Suddenly light emerges from darkness love emerges from hatred. It is a beginning to visualize permanent peace being established on earth.

2. EDUCATION: Our education system has created more problems than solutions. In the present achievement oriented system, values based education has taken a back seat. In this rat race of competition there is no spirit of cooperation or compassion. With the excellence in academic field, men have made horseless carriages and wingless birds. In a spite of that we have not added one inch to the moral height of mankind. From the time a child gets acquainted with the world, he should be inspired to understand moral values. From the lowest grades in school to the highest academic level spiritual and religious education should made compulsory. There is God residing in every heart. A little effort is required; a shake up to get the awakening. If we inculcate the spirit of love, compassion and universal brotherhood we create universal respect for all religion with better understanding of human values. Today the world requires more human beings understanding the value of humanity.

3. POLITICS: We cannot deny that we do not come across more shameless people in any walk of life than our present politicians. Gandhiji visualized religion in politics and he set his principles of Swaraj and Sarvodaya to set a glowing example of clean politics for the world to follow. Our politicians even in the hour of tragedy of such vast magnitude of 26/11 instead of joining hands were searching for opportunities for personal or party profits. At a special session two of our most veteran political leaders attacked and counter attacked each other. Greed of power and a shy grin on their faces taunting one another they made a mockery of our democracy. The nation watched the dirty political drama with disgust. These are our politicians who have created havoc, destroyed the unity, of our people. The so called followers of Gandhiji have sown the seeds of hatred in our country.

From such a vast magnitude of manpower in our country it is an irony that we cannot find a few hundred dedicated honest workers to guide the destiny of our country. We are disgusted with the present state of politics; we want a change. We cannot visualize a party of people worth our trust. We invite people of substance and character to offer their services. As Gita says “Do your allotted work but renounce its fruit”. Be detached and work if you believe in the message of Gita if you have time and inclination come forward to a new beginning to guide the nation for a better tomorrow.

4. SOCIETY: It is our social system which has produced anti social elements leading to terrorism. Every child born in a society has a right to get his basic needs of foods, shelter and education fulfilled by the society. A child may survive even if he deprived of basic needs but starved of love, care and acceptance his spirit is crushed. Frustrated with himself and with the world around him he is forced to find himself thrust into the adventurous world of crime and terrorism. He becomes an easy prey to the vultures of religious fanatics. Getting acceptance there, raising his ego to perform “super act of heroism” in the name of Allah and Jihad he gets ready to take revenge on the world which has shattered his spirit and self respect. If the society had been a little more sympathetic his needs, accepted him and guided him to a meaningful life, do you believe he would have chosen a path to commit such crimes against humanity? Are we not responsible to create terrorism in our society? To curb terrorism the world is spending a major portion of our resources and efforts. If we utilize these funds for betterment of society, industrialists, and business people share their wealth with the less fortunate class to upgrade their living conditions. It will be an act of duty. Renunciation of wealth and utilizing for needy is not charity but act of humanity, giving the rightful dues to those who toil and serve us. To put an end to terrorism we have to change our attitude. More and more people have started thinking on this line. Often does good come out of evil. The future holds a promise for a better tomorrow.

5. PEACE ON EARTH: Not to believe in the possibility of permanent peace is to disbelieve in godliness of human nature. We are in mad rush to multiply our wants believing they add to the real substance and bring happiness. Ultimately we regret for measuring our moral progress for material possession. The root cause of evil is want of living faith in living God. People who claim to believe in the messages of different prophets of peace do not show their faith and belief in actual practice. Primary virtues of mankind are possible to be cultivated by the meanest of human beings. We have yet to appreciate the heritage God has given us. If we practice the law of universal love, God will reign on this earth as he does in Heaven.
